Islam in a libertarian world
Respect must be mutual and voluntary. Social interation must be consentual. Otherwise it’s obedience. Assimilation in this country means respecting other people's liberty as well as your own. The Constitution stipulates religious freedom. So no religion has been banned, mandated or regulated. Many religions and beliefs are practiced in the country. The Amish are a clear 'outlier' example within our society. They do" their thing". We do ours. They do not interfere with our lives and we reciprocate. "Live and let live." Yet, there is a growing political call for federal laws to limit Islam in the US. So, either ignore the Constitution or change it. Changing the document is deliberately made difficult. Currently, Congress agrees on very little ... Nor does the electorate. There is another option. The US constitution only limits the federal government not states or individuals. States can limit religion by law. So can people by recognizing 'separation of church and state' and opposing unwanted religious laws (including Sharia laws) imposed on themselves. In a libertarian world people maximize choices not laws. Libertarians would reject Sharia law as they would reject Amish or other unwanted laws.

"I see the liberty of the individual ... as the necessary condition for the flowering of all the other goods that mankind cherishes: moral virtue, civilization, the arts and sciences, economic prosperity. Out of liberty, then, stem the glories of civilized life.” Murray Rothbard |
