As the Regulatory Transparency Project explains, “There are over 70 federal regulatory agencies, employing hundreds of thousands of people to write and implement regulations. Every year, they issue about 3,500 new rules, and the regulatory code now is over 168,000 pages long.”

We Americans have been conditioned to believe this is the 'land of the free'. Facts say otherwise. Yes, U.S. locks people up at a higher rate than any other country

The federal budget for that function went from $500 million in 1962 to about $50,000 million now. That doesn't include spending on state, and municipal police.

In 1977, state and local governments spent $58 billion on police and corrections (in 2015 inflation-adjusted dollars). In 2015, they spent $181 billion, about three times that amount. (see here)

We spend $100 billion on policing. We have no idea what works.
