ALBANY - A veteran state lawmaker who is the target of a bribery
investigation will resign, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver said Monday.
The Daily News reported Sunday that Assemblywoman Gloria Davis was to
surrender at the office of Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau
on charges she took money to steer a $1 million construction project in
her district to a contractor.

Unidentified elected officials in the Bronx told The New York Times
in Monday's editions that Davis is expected to serve a prison sentence
of less than three months.
To keep her state pension, the Bronx Democrat will submit - or may
have submitted - her resignation in Albany, where she has served for
more than two decades. Davis has been the majority whip for the past two
years. Gov. George Pataki must call a special election to fill her seat.

Investigators from the district attorney's office had previously
raided Davis' office, seizing computers and other records in the bribery
probe. The Daily News reported that investigators stopped Davis on the
street and seized her purse, which allegedly contained thousands of
dollars in marked bills from a payoff.
