Alvin pleaded not guilty Thursday before Judge John C. Egan in Albany City Court. He was sent to Albany County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. He remained in jail Monday and was scheduled to appear again in court today. ... He charged $48,907 to an American Express corporate card issued by the Education Department, of which $1,866 was for legitimate business expenses, according to the Attorney General's office. The rest of the charges were for airline tickets, including trips to Chicago and Washington, D.C., hotel expenses in Albany, New York City and the Washington, D.C. area, and restaurant meals. Alvin used the card to pay for 20 or more plane trips, 50 to 60 hotel stays and hundreds of meals, said Marc Violette, a spokesman for the Attorney General's office. ...
